Purpose: To report two patients who were treated by photodynamic therapy and intravitreous bevacizumab injection in group 1a of Idiopathic Macular Telangiectasis (IMT).
Methods: 54-year-old man who had been diagnosed as group 1a IMT in his left eye was treated by intravitreal bevacizumab injection twice and then photodynamic therapy in case 1. 67-year-old woman with group 1a IMT in her right eye was treated by photodynamic therapy (PDT) once and then intravitreal bevacizumab injection three times in case 2. PDT was performed for vascular telangiectasia area.
Results: Visual acuity improved and optical coherence tomography showed decrease of macular edema in both cases after photodynamic therapy and intravitreal bevacizumab injection. Fluorescein leakage decreased, as well.
Conclusions: We report two rare cases of group 1a of idiopathic macular telangiectasis. Intravitreal bevacizumab injection and PDT in patients with group 1a of idiopathic macular telangiectasis can result in a rapid decrease of macular edema, which will then lead to rapid visual recovery. We recommend that intraviteal bevacizumab injection be used in combination with PDT for the treatment of type 1a of idiopathic macular telangiectasis.
